Character Setup#
When creating a new character, a player must pick two proficient and four crippled Abilities for them. This choice should be based on the character’s Archetypes:
| Archetype | Proficient Abilities | Crippled Abilities |
|---|
| Champion | May pick up to two physical Abilities. | Cannot pick more than one physical Ability. |
| Icon | May pick up to two social Abilities. | Cannot pick more than one social Ability. |
| Genius | May pick up to two intellectual Abilities. | Cannot pick more than one intellectual Ability. |
| Sage | May pick up to two spiritual Abilities. | Cannot pick more than one spiritual Ability. |
These limitations take into account dual domain Abilities.
All remaining Abilities are considered standard. Once done, the player sets all of their character’s Dice Classes:
| Proficient Ability | Standard Ability | Crippled Ability |
|---|
| Dice Class | d8 | d6 | d4 |
Total Health#
Each character possesses a maximum Health value, representing their capacity to withstand physical harm. This number is dependent on the character’s endurance, strength and agility. This is how it’s calculated (starting at 0):
| Dice Class | Endurance | Strength | Agility |
|---|
| d4 | total Health +5 | total Health +2 | total Health +1 |
| d6 | total Health +6 | total Health +3 | total Health +2 |
| d8 | total Health +7 | total Health +4 | total Health +3 |
| d10 | total Health +8 | total Health +5 | total Health +4 |
| d12 | total Health +9 | total Health +6 | total Health +5 |
For example, a character with d8 endurance, d6 strength and d4 agility has a maximum Health of 11. A character with d4 endurance, d4 strength and d6 agility has a maximum Health of 9 etc…
Emotion Thresholds#
Emotions represent a characters’ general feelings, influencing their behavior and responses to adversity. Each Emotion has a threshold, which determines how much strain it can hold. This is how the value is calculated:
- First, Emotions are assigned with an Ability and an Archetype:
| Emotion | Ability | Archetype |
|---|
| Anger | Humility | Champion |
| Fear | Composure | Icon |
| Sadness | Composure | Genius |
| Guilt | Insight | Sage |
- Then, based on the Emotion Ability’s Dice Class (and if the player picked the relevant Archetype or not), a threshold is assessed:
| Dice Class | Without Archetype | With Archetype |
|---|
| d4 | Threshold = 2 | Threshold = 2 |
| d6 | Threshold = 3 | Threshold = 2 |
| d8 | Threshold = 4 | Threshold = 3 |
| d10 | Threshold = 5 | Threshold = 3 |
| d12 | Threshold = 6 | Threshold = 4 |
For example, an icon/sage character with d8 insight, d6 humility, and d6 composure has the following thresholds: anger 3, fear 2, sadness 3 and guilt 3.
Character Development#
During a game, Abilities may advance their Dice Class and Archetypes may change. Once a scenario is over, players should re-calibrate their total Health and Emotion thresholds to reflect these changes (if any).
